Abstract
Join writer Ioney Smallhorne, for a poetic lecture exploring how Caribbean culture shapes her writing as a descendant of the Windrush generation. Personal and poetical, this talk delves into the legacies of migration, questioning colonialism and its ongoing impact on identity. Through the lens of poetry, we’ll explore the challenges and joys of maintaining and contributing to Caribbean cultures while living far from the islands that inspire them. From storytelling traditions to ancestral resilience, this session invites reflection on the power of words to bridge oceans and preserve heritage.
